Directed by Alejandro Amenábar (The Others, The Sea Inside), The Captive (original title El Cautivo) focuses on the young Miguel de Cervantes, who is wounded in a naval battle in 1575, then captured and imprisoned in Algiers. In captivity, he discovers the power of storytelling and writing, which he uses to keep hope alive for himself and his fellow prisoners. Produced as a Spanish-Italian co-production, the film features a prestigious cast led by Julio Peña Fernández, alongside Alessandro Borghi.
On the other hand, Coutures, directed by Alice Winocour, will also have its world premiere in the Special Presentations section at TIFF 2025. The film stars Angelina Jolie as Maxine, an American director who arrives in Paris for Fashion Week. Her daily life is turned upside down when she meets two women whose lives are linked to mysterious phenomena surrounding fabrics and artistic creation.
Both will be screened as part of the “Special Presentations”.
